Serbia’s autumn-sown wheat area rises 5.2%
In 2025, Serbia planted 631,965 hectares of autumn-sown wheat, up 5.2% compared to 2024, the national statistical office reported. The increase reflects a broader expansion of cereal crop areas across the country.
Barley sowings rose 8% to 103,482 hectares, while rye sowings increased 8.5% to 4,918 hectares. In contrast, the area planted with oats fell 5.7% to 12,291 hectares, while rapeseed area grew 7.5% to 52,076 hectares.
According to the statistical office, Serbia’s wheat production in 2025 reached 3.7 million tonnes, up 26.9% from 2024. The higher output was supported both by expanded planting areas and favorable weather conditions during the season.
Overall, the trend of increasing sowing areas indicates that Serbian farmers are actively strengthening cereal production and enhancing the country’s domestic food security.
