Scientists have developed a new feed additive that can reduce methane emissions from cattle by up to 90%. The innovation was created by the biotech startup Agrosintex based in Rosario, which has already attracted investment and is preparing to bring the product to market.
The company designed a specialized granular feed supplement for cows that significantly lowers methane production during digestion. According to the developers, this approach could become one of the most effective ways to reduce the environmental impact of livestock farming.
The livestock sector is estimated to contribute around 10% of global warming due to methane emissions produced during animal digestion. Because of this, new solutions targeting methane reduction are considered highly important for environmental sustainability.
The product is formulated as a grain-like feed additive developed by the company’s biotechnology team. Laboratory results indicate that it not only reduces methane emissions but also improves digestion efficiency by 8–12%, increases animal weight gain, and lowers the risk of diseases.
The founders plan to scale up production after further testing and secure additional funding. Their goal is to make the technology widely accessible to farmers worldwide, combining environmental benefits with economic efficiency.
