Russia will start importing apples from North Korea
Russia has agreed with North Korea to supply apples to the Russian market. This was reported by the Rosselkhoznadzor, The Moscow Times reports.
“At the talks held in June 2024, the parties noted the great potential for expanding trade cooperation in the supply of products, in particular apples,” the agency said in a statement.
Previously, North Korean apples were included in the list of quarantined products, but now they can be freely supplied to Russia accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate. The document must confirm the absence of quarantine organisms in the product in accordance with EAEU legislation.
In turn, the DPRK has expressed interest in increasing supplies of farm animals and dairy products from Russia.
Earlier, Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut said that the Russian Ministry of Agriculture has lowered its forecast for the apple harvest in Russia in 2024 from 1.8 million to 1.5 million tons due to frosts and is working with “friendly” countries to supply additional volumes.
