Russia increases exports of sunflower and rapeseed meal to the EU
Since the beginning of July, Russia has exported more than 453.7 thousand tons of sunflower and rapeseed meal to the territory of the European Union – this is more than 16% higher than the level in the same period last year (388.96 thousand tons). Such data were published in the report of the European Commission (EC).

Russia remains the key supplier of rapeseed meal to the EU in the current agricultural year – 197,063 thousand tons (share – 39.2%) against 136,887 thousand tons (39.3%) in MY 2022/23. The leading exporters of this product also include Belarus and Ukraine, which increased shipments by 1.34 times and 2.8 times – to 147.6 thousand tons (29.4%) and 120.981 thousand tons (24.1%), respectively.
As for sunflower meal, since the beginning of July the EU countries have been most actively buying it from Ukraine – 466.867 thousand tons (share – 35.4%) against 620.89 thousand tons (48.6%) in the previous agricultural year. The second position is occupied by Argentina, which increased its supplies by about one third during the year – from 289.7 thousand tons (22.7%) to 381.889 thousand tons (28.9%). Russia completes the top three with 256.685 thousand tons (19.4%) against 252.071 thousand tons (19.7%) in the previous agricultural year.
Overall, according to the European Commission, the EU imported more than 1.82 million tons of sunflower and rapeseed meal from July 1, 2023 to January 7, 2024, which is almost 200 thousand tons higher than in the same period last season.
