Russia expects record oilseed harvest in 2025
Russia is forecasting a record oilseed harvest in 2025, which could reach 33.8 million tons, Mikhail Maltsev, executive director of the Russian Oil and Fat Union, said at the All-Russian Grain Forum. For comparison, 31.6 million tons were harvested in 2024, and 31.8 million tons in 2023. Despite the difficult conditions of the 2024 harvest, the results were close to the record.
According to Maltsev, favorable weather conditions and an increase in sown areas create the prerequisites for a new record in 2025. If the weather remains favorable, this figure may even be exceeded. At the same time, growing grain crops has become less profitable, which is encouraging farmers to switch to oilseed crops.
Maltsev paid special attention to the prospects of flax, in particular in the context of the export of its processed products – oil and meal. “If earlier we focused on three main crops – sunflower, soybeans and rapeseed – now we will add flax to this list,” he noted. After losing the European market for linseed oil and meal, Russia has refocused on China, and the volume of lineseed processing continues to grow. According to forecasts, in 2025 the harvest of oil flax may reach 1.6 million tons.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
