Romanian barley may find support from wider export demand

Export price of Romanian barley lost 5 dollars over the past week (September 11-18), averaging USD 268/mt FOB Constanta, following mainly global tendencies in the coarse grain sector. However, the price remains close to a 3-year maximum seen in spring of 2023 and up USD 35/mt y/y.

Strong support for Romanian barley comes from the external demand, as Romanian barley is mostly oriented for export activity, contrary to local wheat and especially corn, the domestic consumption of which is significant in Romania.

According to EuroStat, Romania finished MY 2025/26 with another record in barley exports (2.6 mln tons with the data yet incomplete for June 2026). UkrAgroConsult estimates that exports reached 2.7 mln tons. The same volume is expected for the current MY 2026/27.
