Romania strengthens position in MENA wheat markets

Romanian milling wheat (12%) ended the week higher, despite the approaching wheat harvesting. Hot temperature forecast for Western EU was the main input for higher w/w European prices.
Additional support came from Algerian OAIC`s purchase of 800-900 KMT of milling wheat for delivery in August and Romania is believed to be one of the winners. However, the suppliers’ prices were lower
(-USD 5/mt) than in the previous tender with delivery in July.
Total 2025/26 exports might be similar to MY 2023/24 when Algeria became the second largest destination for Romanian wheat.
In 2025/26 season, Saudi Arabia most likely remains the number one among the top wheat importers with record volume at 1700 KMT. The exports increased thanks to record 2025 wheat crop in Romania and competitive prices in the second half of the season, compared to other large Black Sea suppliers.
Romania started harvesting of winter crops. New crop wheat yields and production remain promising and far above the 5-year average.
