Purchasing prices for barley are falling in the Danube ports of Ukraine

The blockade of Ukrainian ports against the background of low capacity of alternative routes and low demand from European buyers were the main factors influencing barley prices. However, they were supported by forecasts of a reduction in barley production in Ukraine and the world, as well as low transitional stocks of grain of the old harvest.

Demand prices for barley harvest 2022 with delivery in July – August to the ports of Reni and Izmail are $ 170-190 / t or 5000-6000 UAH / t CPT port. However, it is bought only by small traders who accumulate volumes for barge deliveries to Turkey or Romanian ports.

In June, Ukraine exported only 31 thousand tons of barley, and in total in 2021/22 MY – 5.747 million tons, which exceeds 4.21 million tons in the 2020/21 season. Barley exports are projected to decline sharply in the new season due to a significant reduction in production, but given the increase in barley yields in Russia and other Black Sea countries, Ukrainian barley prices are unlikely to be high at the beginning of the season, especially as domestic corn prices fall.

If possible, it will be better for agricultural producers to postpone the sale of barley to the second half of the season, when the supply deficit will increase and exports from Ukrainian seaports will be unblocked.
