Pumpkin seed prices remain high due to shortages in China
The global pumpkin seed market remains tense – the harvest in China is smaller this year, so demand exceeds supply.
This is reported by Mundus Agri with reference to a report by Chelmer Foods.
Experts note that demand for regular pumpkin seeds remains high, while the available quantity of the product is limited. Because of this, speculators are holding stocks, expecting a price increase.
“We do not observe significant pressure on prices, but the market remains tense,” Chelmer Foods said.
It is especially difficult to find batches that meet the European Union requirements for pesticide residues. Due to the shortage of such products, prices for pumpkin seeds of European quality are significantly higher, and buyers are trying to conclude contracts in advance to avoid supply disruptions.
Despite the arrival of a new crop, supply is not keeping up with demand. Some packers have already introduced surcharges for urgent shipments, and more and more buyers are willing to pay more for fast deliveries.
According to Chelmer Foods, the price of pumpkin seeds of the GWS, Grade A variety is currently $3,100/t FOB Dalian.
