Processors have increased purchases of sunflower seeds in Ukraine

Processing plants have stepped up purchases of sunseed: their starting stocks are half as small as last year. This stimulates competition among buyers, reports Spike Brokers.

Purchase prices for sunflower seeds at the end of the week increased to $690/t including VAT (port/plant equivalent).

According to brokers, the external market is also supporting prices: in northern European ports, the premium for sunflower oil in the spot market exceeds $100/t, which strengthens demand for Ukrainian products.

As of September 11, Ukraine had harvested 885 thousand tons of sunseed compared to over 3 million tons last year. The yield of the first threshing is 1.55 tons/ha, which is 21% lower than last year. This increases concerns about the new season’s harvest.

Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
