PepsiCo Replaces Canola Oil With Avocado Oil

According to DesignRush, citing a Reuters article, U.S. food and beverage giant PepsiCo is increasing the use of avocado and olive oils in several product categories, replacing traditional vegetable oils like canola and soybean.
The company will also reformulate its Lay’s and Tostitos snacks by the end of this year, cutting out synthetic colors and flavors, according to a July 21 report.
The snacks will now use whole foods like potatoes, butter, and salt instead of synthetic additives.
As DesignRush writes, the reformulation is part of the company’s larger strategy to meet growing consumer interest in simpler ingredients.
Earlier this month, leading coffee chain Starbucks said it was exploring the possibility of eliminating canola oil from its menu in the U.S., the Straits Times reported, citing a Bloomberg News article.
As an example, the company is considering making egg white and roasted red pepper snacks without canola oil, a spokesperson told Bloomberg News.
The coffee chain will also add a new egg dessert made with avocado oil to its menu, according to a July 8 announcement.
