Oilcake provides over 3% of Ukraine’s exports
Oil cake accounts for more than 3 percent of Ukraine’s exports. This was reported by the Center for Economic Strategy.
Last year, 4.8m tons of sunflower cake worth $1.03bn and 725,000 tons of soybean cake worth $304m were sold abroad.
The statistical classifier defines oilcake not as an agricultural product, but as a waste product of the food industry. Although in terms of value such waste is not inferior to some grain crops: the average export price of sunflower cake in 2024 was $215, soybean cake – $420.
Sunflower cake is mainly exported to China (31.5%) and Poland (12%), while soybean cake is exported to Poland (46%) and Hungary (24%).
The cake is used as fodder for fattening domestic animals and as a component for the preparation of complete mixed fodders and feed mixtures.
