New protein and oil production plant will be built in Croatia

Animal feed producer Fanon is planning to construct a new protein and oil production facility in Croatia as part of its broader development strategy Fanon 2.0. The plant is expected to be built in the Kneginec area and represents one of the company’s key upcoming investments.

The project also includes significant upgrades to local transport infrastructure in the Brezje business zone. Plans involve the construction of two new railway tracks aimed at improving logistics efficiency and reducing reliance on road transport.

According to the company, the investment is intended to strengthen Croatia’s self-sufficiency in protein and oil production, create added value from domestic raw materials, and reduce dependence on imports. It also aims to support more sustainable and circular production models within the agricultural sector.

Fanon CEO Mario Jarnjak emphasized that the project is strategic for both the company and the national economy. He noted that the long-term goal is to expand domestic production of proteins and oils while developing more environmentally friendly logistics solutions, with rail transport seen as a key alternative due to lower costs and reduced environmental impact.

Fanon is the largest animal feed producer in Croatia and operates the country’s second-largest oil mill, processing rapeseed, sunflower seed, and flaxseed. Its crude oils are used in the food industry, animal feed production, and biodiesel manufacturing, alongside broader activities in grain production, poultry farming, and agricultural logistics.
