Morocco to increase wheat imports due to crop failure
Morocco will increase wheat imports this season due to crop failure caused by severe drought. This is stated in the report of the Foreign Agricultural Service under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (FAS USDA).
Gross wheat harvest fell to 2.47 million tons (4.160 million tons in the 2023/2024 season) and barley fell to 0.66 (1.35) million tons.
Wheat imports in the current season could rise to 7.5 (6.24) million tons. Barley imports will total 1.15 (1.533) million tons.
This season, Moroccan importers switched to buying wheat from Russia and Ukraine, reducing imports from Canada and Argentina, which offer higher prices.
