Lithuanian Seimas wants to ban imports of Russian and Belarusian grain at the EU level
On March 14, the Lithuanian Seimas adopted a resolution demanding an EU ban on imports of Russian and Belarusian agricultural products. The resolution was unanimously voted for by 107 members of the Lithuanian Seimas.
The parliamentarians called on the European Commission to urgently draft a bill to ban imports of Russian and Belarusian grain to the EU. The Sejm also asked other European institutions to support such sanctions.
The resolution also proposes to consider banning the import of food products of Russian and Belarusian origin to Europe and to use Ukrainian products instead.
In the event of unfavorable market prices, the European Commission is proposed to apply a system of interventions to purchase surplus grain in Ukraine, which will support grain prices and guarantee producers’ incomes.
Lithuanian parliamentarians ask the European Commission to ensure cooperation and coordination between EU member states in order to effectively apply the ban throughout the EU.
