Kernel switches bottled sunflower oil production to energy from husks
Ukrainian agribusiness holding Kernel has ensured full energy autonomy for its bottled oil production by switching to its own renewable energy generated from biomass. As a result, the facility operates independently of external electricity and heat supplies and does not place additional strain on Ukraine’s power system, the company said.
Energy for production processes is generated from sunflower husks, a by-product of sunflower seed processing. This approach allows Kernel to close the production loop, reduce energy costs, and significantly strengthen the plant’s energy resilience.
According to Serhii Neroshchyn, Kernel’s Director of Marketing and Sales for packaged products, the plant has successfully passed an audit and received an international certificate from Bureau Veritas Group. This confirms that 100% of bottled oil produced at the facility is manufactured exclusively using renewable energy.
The corresponding labeling has already appeared on the packaging of the company’s flagship brands, Shchedryi Dar and Stozhar. In this way, Kernel emphasizes not only the energy independence of its production, but also its compliance with international sustainability standards.
In the first half of the 2026 financial year, Kernel produced about 40,000 tonnes of bottled oil, which is supplied to the domestic market and exported to more than 40 countries worldwide. Sunflower husks are not disposed of as waste but are used as biofuel, reducing environmental impact and improving processing efficiency.
