Kazakhstan plans to produce SAF from industrial oilseed crops

Kazakhstan is considering launching production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) based on industrial oilseed crops. The project was discussed by Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov and representatives of Asian companies Full Vision Capital (FVC), Towngas, and EcoCeres, which are interested in investing in the country’s agricultural sector.

According to the minister, expanding value-added processing of agricultural raw materials is one of the key priorities of Kazakhstan’s agricultural policy. The project is expected to bring unused land into production, expand the area planted with industrial oilseed crops, and provide farmers with a stable market for their products.

The parties also discussed using agricultural and food waste as feedstock for SAF production without relying on edible vegetable oils. In addition, they explored potential cooperation on projects involving biochar production and green methanol.

Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their interest in continuing cooperation and agreed to further develop the technical aspects of the projects before moving to the next stage of implementation. The planned investments are expected to support the development of the processing industry and create new growth opportunities for rural areas.

The initiative reflects the rapidly expanding global SAF market. Industry estimates indicate that worldwide SAF production will increase by about 25% in 2026 compared with last year’s output of 1.9 mln tons, encouraging more countries to invest in domestic sustainable aviation fuel production.
