Jordan refrains from buying in a tender to obtain 120 thousand tons of wheat
It is believed that the Jordanian government grain buyer did not make any purchase in an international tender to obtain 120,000 tons of wheat, today, Tuesday, traders said.
It is believed that only CHS Company participated in the bidding. Another tender is expected to be issued in the coming days.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordanian General Company for Silos and Supply Anwar Al-Ajarmeh had mentioned in previous statements that Jordan’s stock of wheat is sufficient for 8 months, and its stock of barley is sufficient for at least 5 months.
Al-Ajarmeh explained that “with regard to the storage process, we have the capacity to store 750,000 tons in silos” in addition to “750,000 tons within ground containers” with a total storage capacity that is sufficient for 17-18 months.
And “Currently, we have in warehouses, containers and future contracts during the current months of May, June and July a stockpile that suffices Jordan for 13 months for wheat and 10 months for barley,” according to Al-Ajarmeh.
But he said, without calculating future contracts, that Jordan’s stock of wheat suffices for 8 months, and for barley it suffices for 5 months.
Jordan consumes 90,000 tons of wheat and 80,000 tons of barley per month, according to Al-Ajarmah, knowing that the Kingdom imports 95% of its wheat needs.
He pointed out that Jordan imports 70% of basic foodstuffs and 95% of its wheat needs.
