Iran interested in increasing imports of Kazakh grain
Iran has expressed interest in expanding imports of agricultural products from Kazakhstan, developing logistics routes, and implementing joint projects in processing and agro-industrial cooperation. These issues were discussed during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Seyed Mohammad Atabak.
According to the results of 2025, agricultural trade turnover between the two countries increased by 55.8% to reach $342 million. Exports of Kazakh agricultural products rose by 97% to $238 million. Grain shipments showed particularly strong growth, more than doubling to 1.1 million tonnes valued at over $225 million.
During the talks, special attention was given to the prospects of restoring and expanding grain exports to Iran. The issue remains important after Kazakh grain exports to the Iranian market were effectively suspended in early 2026 due to escalating military tensions in the region.
In addition to grain, the ministers discussed opportunities to increase supplies of beef and lamb that comply with international veterinary and halal standards. The parties also highlighted significant potential for expanding exports of vegetable oils and other food products to the Iranian market.
A separate part of the discussions focused on investment cooperation. Kazakhstan invited Iranian investors to participate in projects involving the production and deep processing of agricultural products, including grain and oilseed crops. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across key sectors of the agri-food industry.
