Investigation in Turkey’s poultry industry may impact the corn market
Turkish authorities have appointed temporary administrators to 13 major poultry companies as part of an investigation into alleged violations of competition law, unjustified price increases, and consumer harm. The move was reported by Turkish media citing decisions made by government authorities.
The companies placed under external administration include Banvit, Akpiliç, Bakpiliç, Aspiliç, Bupiliç, Erpiliç, Gedik Pazarlama, Hastavuk, Keskinoğlu, Şenpiliç, Orvital, Aypi, and Lezita. The investigation covers a significant share of Turkey’s poultry meat sector, which plays a key role in the country’s food industry.
The development has raised concerns among grain market participants, as the poultry sector is one of the largest consumers of feed corn. Any disruption to the operations of major producers could affect grain demand and purchasing activity within the country.
The situation is particularly important for Ukraine, as Turkey remains the largest buyer of Ukrainian corn. In the 2025/26 season, Turkey imported approximately 5.7 million tonnes of Ukrainian corn, accounting for nearly 30% of Ukraine’s total corn exports. However, demand for Ukrainian corn from Turkish buyers has already remained subdued for several weeks.
Market participants are now assessing the potential implications for feed grain trade and closely monitoring further decisions by the Turkish authorities.
