India moves toward edible oil self-reliance amid geopolitical risks
India’s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has conducted a comprehensive review of the country’s edible oil sector, focusing on reducing import dependence and increasing domestic production.
During the session, officials from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs briefed the committee on the current status of the sector. Discussions centered on policy measures aimed at boosting local production and strengthening support for farmers to achieve greater self-sufficiency in edible oil.
At the same time, another parliamentary committee examined the impact of geopolitical developments in West Asia on India’s road infrastructure, highlighting broader concerns over the resilience of key national supply chains.
The committees are expected to submit their reports to Parliament in the near future, which could inform future policy decisions on agricultural production, energy security, and infrastructure planning.
