In 2022, Ukraine is the first in the ranking of butter suppliers to the EU
The European Commission has published data on trade in dairy products for three quarters of the current year. Of course, we are interested in European imports, that is, Ukrainian exports.
According to COMEXT data, in 2022, Ukraine ranks first in the list of suppliers of the most marginal exchange-traded dairy products in the EU, namely, butter and cheeses.
Thus, according to the results of nine months, Ukraine exported 4.3 thousand tons of butter to the EU and occupies the first position in the rating. Our country’s “competition” is Turkey and New Zealand, but at the end of the year, Ukraine will retain its leading position.
During the same period, 1.5 thousand tons of goods under the cheese code were delivered to the EU from Ukraine. In fact, this fact is even more positive, because, unlike butter, Ukraine had no experience selling cheeses in the EU until this year. There is a chance to argue for the second position with Serbia and Norway.
These successes, in addition to the work of all relevant operators, are the result of the following factors:
change in industrial balance due to war
removal of trade restrictions on the part of the EU
favorable price conditions for milk in the EU and Ukraine (the same factor can be cited as the reason for the increase in butter supplies to the EU from Turkey and New Zealand).
