Higher crop yields in the EU have reduced demand for Ukrainian rapeseed
EU imports of Ukrainian rapeseed fell by around 34% in MY 2025/26 to 1.6 mln tons. Despite the decline, Ukraine remained the EU’s second-largest rapeseed supplier after Australia.
Overall, the EU imported around 5.4 mln tons of rapeseed from third countries, down from 7.5 mln tons a season earlier. The roughly 28% decline was mainly driven by a larger domestic rapeseed crop in the EU.
Other major suppliers also recorded significant declines. Australian rapeseed shipments to the EU fell by 41% to around 2.1 mln tons, while Canada supplied 870 thsd tons compared with 1.1 mln tons in the previous season.
Competition for Ukrainian rapeseed in its key European market is therefore increasing not only from other exporters but also due to the recovery in the EU’s own production. UFOP expects another good EU rapeseed crop in 2026 despite challenging weather conditions in recent weeks.
At the same time, the EU remains a key market for Ukrainian rapeseed products. Persistently high domestic rapeseed production in the EU could continue to limit import demand, including supplies from Ukraine.
