In the southern districts of the Odesa region, farmers have begun harvesting winter barley and winter peas, according to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper.

This year, farmers in the region are expected to harvest grain and leguminous crops from nearly 770,000 hectares. The largest share of acreage traditionally belongs to winter and spring wheat, covering more than 522,000 hectares. Barley accounts for almost 176,000 hectares, peas about 74,400 hectares, and rapeseed more than 175,000 hectares.

According to Kiper, the initial harvest results indicate good yield levels.

“Our region is traditionally among the country’s key breadbaskets and one of the leaders in agricultural production volumes. Therefore, the start of the harvesting campaign is an important event not only for the Odesa region but also for the food security of the entire country,” he said.

Overall, Ukraine’s agricultural sector is entering the 2026 harvest season in a relatively stable production condition: the spring sowing campaign was completed within the planned timeframe, the crop structure remained broadly unchanged compared to last year, and total grain and oilseed production is projected to exceed 80 million tonnes. At the same time, fuel prices are currently declining on the market, which may partially offset the higher costs of field operations incurred during spring and early summer.

For almost 30 years of expertise in the agri markets, UkrAgroConsult has accumulated an extensive database, which became the basis of the platform AgriSupp.

It is a multi-functional online platform with market intelligence for grains and oilseeds that enables to get access to daily operational information on the Black Sea & Danube markets, analytical reports, historical data.
