Global lentil market remains stable as Canadian crop prospects improve

сочевиця

The global lentil market remains broadly stable as favorable crop prospects in Canada, comfortable stocks in India, and ample export supplies from Australia continue to balance the market. Traders see limited upside for prices in the near term as buyers have access to multiple competitive origins.

In Canada, lentil crops are developing under favorable weather conditions following adequate rainfall and seasonally normal temperatures. Saskatchewan, the country’s main lentil-producing province, continues to show strong yield potential. If current conditions persist, Canada is expected to maintain a sizeable export surplus in the 2026/27 season.

India, one of the world’s largest importers of red lentils, remains well supplied thanks to higher domestic production and earlier imports. Processors are purchasing mainly to cover immediate needs rather than committing to large forward contracts while monitoring crop developments in Canada.

Australia is also adding pressure to the market by maintaining strong export availability. Large carryover stocks from previous harvests continue to intensify competition among exporters and strengthen the bargaining position of major importing countries.
