Germany’s winter wheat harvest to reach 22.45 mln tons
The winter wheat harvest in Germany this year will amount to 22.45 million tons. The harvest will increase by 26.3% compared to last year, despite late summer rains before the harvest, the German Ministry of Agriculture reports.
The gross grain harvest in 2025 is expected to increase by 14.8% compared to last year, to around 44.73 million tons, according to the first preliminary estimate of the season results.
The winter rapeseed harvest is estimated at 3.96 million tons. The figure is around 9.4% higher than last year.
Germany is the second-largest wheat producer in the EU after France and one of the largest producers of rapeseed.
Late rains that fell on ripening wheat pose a serious threat to the quality of the harvest. However, the protein content in winter wheat averages 12%, which is higher than last year’s figure of 11.6%, the ministry’s materials note.
