Germany reduced rapeseed planted area
According to the national statistics agency of Germany, the sown area of winter wheat for the harvest of 2024 in the country decreased by 8.3% per year, to 2.6 million hectares. Also smaller and sown area of winter rape – 1.1 million hectares (-5.8% per year).
As noted, the reduction in sown areas was due to unfavorable weather conditions, in particular excessive rainfall last fall, which hampered the sowing of winter crops, as well as the overall reduction of agricultural land in Germany.
However, the area sown to winter barley, which is mainly used for fodder production, increased by 2.5% to 1.3 million hectares.
At the same time, the sown area under spring cereals in Germany increased by 19.6% year-on-year to 1.1 million hectares. In particular, the increase in spring barley crops is 13%, up to 363 thousand hectares, corn for grain – 11.2%, up to 518 thousand hectares, corn for biogas production – by 4.9%, up to 2.1 million hectares.
