Germany opens wheat exports to Indonesia
Germany will be able to begin wheat exports to Indonesia starting in June 2026 following the signing of a phytosanitary agreement between the two countries. The announcement was made by the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) and the German Grain Trade Association (DAH).
The agricultural organizations stated that the opening of the Indonesian market creates new opportunities for German grain exporters. Indonesia is among the world’s largest wheat importers alongside Egypt, purchasing around 11 million tons of wheat annually.
German industry representatives emphasized that Indonesia had long been one of the top priorities for expanding export destinations. The market is viewed as particularly promising amid stable or even declining domestic grain demand within Germany.
Exporters also noted that shipments to third-country markets are becoming increasingly important for Germany’s agricultural sector. Access to new export destinations helps offset weaker domestic demand and supports the competitiveness of the country’s grain industry.
The associations added that the next strategic goal is opening the Chinese market for German wheat and barley exports. Industry representatives believe that expanding Germany’s presence in Asia could significantly strengthen the country’s position in the global grain market.
