Floods in Brazil suspend operations at selected soybean processors

Safras&Mercado reports that excessive rainfall over the past month, which flooded the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, has caused significant damage not only to soybean production, but also to the region’s processing plants, which have been forced to temporarily shut down operations due to the effects of flooding or a shortage of raw materials.

Thus, according to a statement by Bianchini S/A, in the Canoas production unit in Porto Alegre, due to the flooding of the company’s territory, it is not possible to restart electric motors to resume operations. It is noted that Canoas has the capacity to process 800 thousand tons of soybeans per year and produce 380 thousand cubic meters of biodiesel.

At the same time, processing companies not directly affected by the floods are experiencing a significant shortage of raw materials. Thus, due to the impossibility of supplying soybeans by road, highway, processors in the state of Rio Grande do Sul did not receive raw materials during May and in early June logistical difficulties still persist.
