Fee for electronic services during the passage of the Suez Canal will increase 6 times
Starting September 1, 2024, fees for ships using electronic services while passing through the Suez Canal will increase from $50 to $300. This is stated in the message of the Canal Authority. From 2025, this fee will be increased to $500.
The e-service fee is an additional charge in addition to transit costs.
Some vessels will be exempt from e-service fees, including those exempt from transit fees and small vessels with a displacement of less than 300 tons.
The Suez Canal is one of Egypt’s main sources of income, along with oil production, tourism and agriculture.
As a reminder, starting from July 1, 2024, Turkey will increase the cost of passage of ships through the Bosporus and Dardanelles by 14.7%.
