Exports of Ukrainian goods through Romania increased by one and a half times, – Zelensky

Ukraine seeks to increase exports of goods through Romania to 4 million tons per month. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during a telephone conversation with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, the press service of the head of state reports.

According to Zelensky, exports of Ukrainian products through Romania have already increased from 2 million tons to more than 3 million tons per month.

“The interlocutors discussed the possibility of further expanding the capacity of border crossing points so that this figure reaches the target of 4 million tons,” the statement said.

Zelenskyy also noted the importance of the European Council’s decision to start negotiations on Ukraine and Moldova’s accession to the EU and thanked Romania for supporting this decision.

The interlocutors also discussed bilateral defense cooperation, in particular aspects of training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters.

As reported, in 2023, Ukraine’s exports of goods amounted to almost 100 million tons, which is 112 thousand tons more than in 2022. However, in value terms, the figure fell by 18.7% to $35.8 billion.

At the same time, exports of agricultural products from Ukraine in December 2023 increased to 7.18 mln tons compared to 5.46 mln tons in November, and the figure was higher (7.45 mln tons) only in March last year. This was made possible by an increase in the shipment of products through ports to 6.14 million tons from 4.29 million tons, which was a record during the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation.
