Exports of sunflower meal from Moldova decreased to 59.9 thsd tonnes
In the first half of 2024, the export of sunflower meal from Moldova decreased significantly. This is evidenced by the analysis of the agro market expert Yurii Rii, Agroexpert reports. In January-June 2024, the country exported only 59.9 thsd tons of sunflower meal, down almost two times compared to the same period last year.
The decline in exports became evident in May, and in June there were no transactions with this product.
Prices were also not in favor of exporters: in 2024, the average export price was 3.94 lei/kg (36 UAH), which is 15.6% less than 4.67 lei/kg in 2023.
In terms of export destinations, Romania remained the main market, followed by the new destination of Cyprus. Other countries that received meal from the Republic are Italy, Turkey, Egypt and Morocco.
Imports of meal to Moldova amounted to only 735 tons, which is more than 200 times less than the exported volume. The average import price amounted to 4.27 lei/kg (38.5 UAH).
Earlier it was reported that the export of sunflower oil from the Republic of Moldova in the first half of 2024 decreased by 45% compared to the same period last year to 68.3 thsd tons.
