Exports of agricultural products from Ukraine increased to 7.2 million tons in December thanks to the sea corridor

Exports of agricultural products from Ukraine in December 2023 increased to 7.18 million tons compared to 5.46 million tons in November, the highest level (7.45 million tons) was only in March last year.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, this was made possible by an increase in the shipment of products through ports to 6.14 million tons from 4.29 million tons, which was a record during the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation.

Exports by rail in December decreased to 0.84 million tons from 0.94 million tons, and by road to 0.14 million tons from 0.18 million tons, while last fall they exceeded 0.6 million tons. Another 0.06 mln tons were shipped by ferries in December, compared to 0.04 mln tons in November.

In terms of crops, export growth in December was driven by corn – up to 3.12 million tons from 2.33 million tons in November, wheat – up to 1.84 million tons from 1.13 million tons, sunflower oil – up to 0.67 million tons from 0, 51 mln tons, meal – to 0.49 mln tons from 0.39 mln tons and barley – to 0.25 mln tons from 0.18 mln tons, while the shipment of rapeseed remained at the level of about 0.35 mln tons and soybeans decreased to 0.42 mln tons from 0.51 mln tons.

In general, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukraine exported 61.8 mln tons of agricultural products in 2023, including 47.2 mln tons by sea, 10.32 mln tons by rail, 3.23 mln tons by road, and 1.05 mln tons by ferries.

According to the information, in 2023, the largest export volume was corn grain – 26 million tons, of which 20.42 million tons were shipped from ports, 4.7 million tons – by rail, 0.75 million tons – by road and 0.14 million tons – by ferry.

The second place goes to wheat exports, which amounted to 16.17 million tons, of which 13.7 million tons were shipped through ports, 1.78 million tons by rail, 0.48 million tons by road, and 0.2 million tons by ferry.

The third place in the structure of agricultural exports in 2023 belonged to sunflower oil, which was supplied to world markets in the amount of 5.59 mln tons. Of this amount, 3.92 million tons were shipped through ports, 0.82 million tons by rail, 0.6 million tons by road, and 0.25 million tons by ferry.

Next in the agro-export ranking are meal, soybeans and rapeseed, which Ukraine exported 4.36 mln tons, 3.42 mln tons and 2.99 mln tons respectively in 2023.

Last year, barley supplies to the world markets amounted to 2.62 million tons, sunflower seeds – 2.12 million tons, and soybean oil – 0.27 million tons.

In the structure of agricultural exports in 2023, corn accounted for 42.09%, sunflower seeds – 1.28%, soybean oil – 0.46%, sunflower oil – 9.05%, wheat – 26.16%, rapeseed – 4.85%, soybeans – 5.54%, meals – 7.06%, barley – 3.5%.
