European demand sharply boosts Brazilian technical corn oil exports
Brazil’s exports of technical corn oil (TCO) rose to 42.5 thsd tons in August 2026, up 28.8% from July and 165% from August last year. January-August shipments reached 162.6 thsd tons, up 96.8% y/y.
Export growth is being supported by stronger demand from Europe’s renewable fuels sector. Fastmarkets assessed Brazilian TCO export prices at $1,280–1,310/t FOB as of September 11, while domestic FOB Mato Grosso values were around $1,073–1,131/t.
Higher export premiums are making it increasingly difficult for domestic buyers to compete for supply. Market participants said export-linked bids on an FOB Mato Grosso basis were around BRL 300/t above prices offered by the animal nutrition sector.
Technical corn oil is a coproduct of Brazil’s rapidly expanding corn ethanol industry. The domestic market was previously the main outlet, but demand from European HVO producers is now playing a growing role in price formation.
Export dynamics are expected to become increasingly important as Brazil’s corn ethanol industry expands. Producers seeking access to the European market are also placing greater emphasis on ISCC certification requirements and export premiums.
