European Commission to assess Ukraine’s harvest and export capacity before deciding on further support

The European Commission will assess Ukraine’s new harvest, available storage capacity and export potential before deciding on further measures to support the country’s agricultural sector. Brussels said it would separately examine the situation with Black Sea routes and the operation of the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes.

The European Commission has already received Ukraine’s request for €220 mln to support farmers facing difficulties selling their products due to disruptions to maritime exports. The funding is intended to help maintain farmers’ liquidity amid limited opportunities to export the new crop.

Brussels is also considering possible further measures, including access for Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU market and expanding the capacity of the Solidarity Lanes. However, before making any decisions, the Commission wants to assess the potential impact of additional Ukrainian supplies on the European market.

Key factors will include the actual results of Ukraine’s harvest in the coming months, available grain storage capacity and the state of export logistics. Particular attention will be paid to Black Sea export capacity and the additional volumes of Ukrainian agricultural products that could be handled through alternative routes via the EU.

The European Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine’s access to international markets. Brussels said the updated EU-Ukraine trade framework should provide predictable conditions for both Ukrainian and EU farmers, while further support decisions will take into account the situation with the harvest, stocks and exports.
