EU launches coalition to support EUDR implementation

European companies, certification bodies and environmental civil society organisations have joined forces to create a new coalition aimed at supporting the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The initiative was launched on April 14 at the European Parliament.

The EU Sustainable Supply Chains Coalition aims to promote ambitious EU policies focused on building sustainable supply chains in agriculture and the forestry sector. Participants seek to ensure effective implementation of the new rules and improve transparency of product origin.

The coalition includes major global companies such as Nestlé, Barry Callebaut and Mars, as well as certification bodies and environmental organisations including the Rainforest Alliance and RSPO. They plan to work together to improve standards and practices across global supply chains.

The EU regulation covers seven key commodities linked to deforestation: palm oil, soy, timber, rubber, coffee, cocoa and cattle. Its full implementation has already been delayed twice and is now scheduled for the end of 2026.

Coalition members stress that the initiative should help prevent the weakening of the rules and ensure their full enforcement. At the same time, the EU underlines that international partners, including the United States, will need to adapt to its standards to maintain access to the European market.
