Egypt successfully completes wheat harvest
Egypt is nearing the end of its 2025 wheat harvest, having harvested 3.1 million acres, more than 98 percent of the total area sown at 3.4 million acres. According to Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, farmers have placed more than 3.2 million tons of wheat in storage and granaries across the country. The harvesting and delivery process is continuing smoothly, and the government expects total production to reach about 10 million tons.
To support farmers, the government has set a pre-set purchase price of 2,200 Egyptian pounds per ardeb, which has encouraged farmers to actively deliver. More than 420 wheat receiving points across the country ensure an efficient supply chain. Farouk stressed that payments to farmers are made within 48 hours of delivery, and technical support and mechanization help minimize crop losses.
Wheat remains strategically important for Egypt, meeting 56% of its subsidized grain needs. The government plans to increase domestic production to 65%, balancing crop diversification with water conservation. Total wheat supplies are expected to exceed 4.5 million tons, strengthening the country’s food security.
