Dust storms destroyed part of Ukraine’s sugar beet crops
The total area planted with sugar beet in Ukraine this year amounts to 162 thsd ha.
This was reported by the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine (Ukrtsukor), citing information from sugar mills planning to process the 2026 crop.
“The planted area may be revised downward before harvesting, as part of the crop was lost due to dust storms that occurred in May and June,” the association said.
Ukrtsukor also stated that it cannot confirm the previously published figures of 185.6–197.2 thsd ha of sugar beet plantings released by Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
According to the association, the ministry’s figures require additional verification.
“A difference of more than 20 thsd ha is significant for a crop grown by a limited number of producers. We consider it unlikely that such an area could have gone unnoticed by sugar processors,” Ukrtsukor concluded.
