Dozen plants reduced sunseed processing, some stopped or switched to soybeans – Ukroliyaprom
The oilseed processing plants have reduced sunseed processing, and some have stopped or are switching to soybeans. This was reported in a comment to Latifundist.com by the association Ukroliyaprom.
“A dozen factories have reduced sunseed processing and some have stopped or are switching to soybeans, given the containment of sales and rising prices for sunseed,” the association said.
According to Ukroliyaprom, last year Ukraine processed 1.5 mln tons of sunseed per month and exported 600 thsd tonnes of oil. Now the processing is 800 thousand tons of sunseed and 280 thousand tons of oil is exported.
As of January 1, Ukraine’s sunseed stocks were at 7.4 mln tonnes. As of February 1, this figure will drop to 6-6.6 mln tonnes, the association predicts.
Ukroliyaprom also added that stopping the plant does not equal avoiding losses, and although they accumulate when operating in the current environment, “they accumulate even more when the plant is not working.”
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
