Donau Soja Introduces Crop Insights for Compliance with New EU Deforestation Regulation
The Donau Soja Association has developed innovative software called Crop Insights to assist companies in meeting the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115). This product is a comprehensive solution that covers all stages of due diligence, from geodata collection to the creation of Due Diligence Statements (DDS). Crop Insights is suitable for both certified soya under Donau Soja/Europe Soya standards and non-certified soya from Europe and South America, ensuring traceability and compliance with EU requirements.
Crop Insights offers automated geodata collection, enabling precise identification of production plot boundaries using high-resolution satellite imagery and machine learning. This simplifies verification of no deforestation on fields after 2020 and facilitates supply chain management with the ability to onboard an unlimited number of partners. Additionally, the platform ensures secure data storage for five years and streamlines the submission of statements to the EUDR registry, making the compliance process convenient and efficient.
The EUDR, which takes effect for large and medium-sized companies on December 30, 2025, and for small and micro-enterprises on June 30, 2026, requires companies importing soya into the EU to ensure full traceability of each batch to the field, provide geocoordinates in GeoJSON format for plots larger than 4 hectares, and confirm no deforestation after December 31, 2020, as well as compliance with the production country’s legislation. Non-compliance may result in fines of up to 4% of a company’s annual turnover.
