Following the lowest corn harvest in a decade, Serbia’s corn production could nearly double in the 2026/27 marketing year, according to a new report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Unfavorable weather conditions significantly impacted corn production in Serbia in 2025/26, with the gross harvest amounting to only 3.5 million tons, 34% lower than the previous season. However, the FAS expects production to increase to 6.7 million tons in 2026/27, assuming weather conditions normalize and yields return to average levels.

“If the forecast is realized, Serbia will be able to fully meet domestic corn consumption at approximately 3.65 million tons, as well as generate an export and carryover resource of approximately 3.1 million tons,” the FAS report notes.

According to the agency, limited corn production, declining grain quality, risks associated with aflatoxin contamination, and difficulties with logistics across the Black Sea have led to a record drop in exports of 500,000 tons in 2025/26.

Meanwhile, wheat production in Serbia reached record levels: the 2025/26 harvest amounted to 3.7 million tons, approximately 28% higher than the previous year. The country also expects another bumper harvest in 2026/27, as the FAS estimates that winter wheat crops are “in excellent condition.”

“The area under wheat in 2026/27 is estimated at 630,000 hectares, approximately 4% higher than the previous marketing year,” the FAS reported. “However, if yields return to more average levels, total production will decline to approximately 3.3 million tons.”

The service also noted that the increase in carryover wheat stocks—to 768,000 tons—could contribute to an increase in Serbian wheat exports in the 2026/27 marketing year to 1.7 million tons, 200,000 tons higher than the previous season.
