Corn and sunflower stocks in Slovakia fall sharply in the first half of 2026

Stocks of cereals and oilseeds held by Slovak farmers declined significantly in the first half of 2026. The largest drop among grains was recorded for corn, down 78%, while sunflower stocks posted the steepest decline among oilseeds, falling 86%.
As of June 30, corn stocks stood at 107 thsd tons, down from 493 thsd tons at the beginning of the year. Common wheat stocks fell by 62% to 197 thsd tons, while durum wheat stocks also declined by 62% to 66 thsd tons. Barley stocks decreased by 29% to 129 thsd tons.
Most of the grain was sold to trading and processing companies. This channel accounted for 88% of durum wheat stock use, 80% of corn and 78% of common wheat.
Among oilseeds, sunflower stocks fell from 25 thsd tons to just 3 thsd tons over the first half of the year, while soybean stocks dropped from 37 thsd tons to 7 thsd tons, or by 80%. Sales to trading and processing companies accounted for 84% of sunflower use and 58% of soybean use.
Rapeseed was the only major crop surveyed to record an increase in stocks. By the end of June, rapeseed stocks reached 41 thsd tons, up 4% from the beginning of the year, supported by additions from farmers’ own production.
