Corn and soybeans in the south of Ukraine can be forgotten for many years – agrarian
After the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in southern Ukraine, it will not be possible to grow corn, soybeans and alfalfa for many years. Viktor Naydenov, director of Askaniyske State Farm, told Latifundist.com.
According to the agrarian, it will be possible to grow barley, wheat and sunflower in these areas.
Mr. Naydenov notes that the fallow farming format on the Left Bank, which will suffer the most, is not very profitable.
“For fallow land, it has to be cultivated, not just “walk” and grow grass. This is a very expensive thing. And after the robberies by the Russians, I think it will be difficult to do this,” the farmer said.
It should be noted that Askaniyske is the base farm of the Askaniysk State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. It is located in Tavrychanka, Kakhovka district.
As previously reported, after the Russians blow up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, the sandy bottom may open up. This will lead to the formation of a new desert with all its climatic consequences.
