Condition of winter wheat crops in the US is the worst in the last thirty years
Last week, winter wheat crop conditions in the US deteriorated significantly, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
The share of winter wheat crops in excellent or good condition fell to 28%, the lowest in three decades. A week earlier, 31% of the crops were in excellent or good condition, compared to 62% a year ago.
Spring planting is currently underway in the US. Soybean, corn, and spring wheat planting rates are ahead of average.
By May 10, American farmers had planted 49% of their planned soybean acreage (45% on the same date last year and 36% on average over the past five years). Corn has been planted at 57% of its planned acreage (59% and 52%, respectively), and spring wheat at 53% (63% and 51%).
