COFCO completes modernization of grain terminal in Constanta
COFCO International has completed another phase of modernization of its grain terminal at the port of Constanta in Romania.
COFCO announced this, noting that the modernization included dredging the port basin and strengthening the berth, which will allow direct loading of Panamax-class vessels and significantly improve the efficiency of port logistics.
Located at the mouth of the Danube River, the terminal is a critical export hub for grain from Romania and neighboring countries, including Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Moldova. It uses the Danube’s inland waterway network to connect key agricultural production areas with the Black Sea for global distribution.
By enabling full Panamax vessels to be loaded directly at the terminal without the need to move to deeper third-party berths, the upgrade is expected to reduce vessel turnaround times, reduce operating costs and improve overall supply chain reliability.
“Building on this achievement, COFCO International has already launched a new project to increase the port terminal’s capacity, which will facilitate further growth from 2026 and reinforce its commitment to efficient and reliable grain exports from the region,” the statement said.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
