China’s former agriculture minister sentenced to death
From 2007 to 2024, while holding various positions, former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China Tang Zhenjiang received bribes in the form of cash and property
Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China Tang Zhenjiang has been sentenced to death with a suspended sentence for bribery. This is reported by Reuters.
According to the state news agency Xinhua, from 2007 to 2024, while holding various positions, the official received bribes in the form of cash and property. The total amount of illegal benefits amounted to more than 268 million yuan (about $ 37.6 million).
The case was considered by the Changchun Intermediate People’s Court in Jilin Province. The execution of the sentence was postponed for two years, taking into account the former minister’s confession.
The Chinese Communist Party expelled Tang Zhenjian in November 2024, six months after an anti-corruption body launched an investigation against him and removed him from office. He was caught up in a wave of purges in China’s apparatus that began in 2020 and led to investigations into Defense Minister Li Shangfu and his predecessor, Wei Fenghe.
