China began to cancel duties on certain goods from the US without an official announcement
China has quietly lifted additional tariffs of 125% on some U.S.-made semiconductors, CNN reported, citing unnamed sources. There has been no official announcement from the Chinese government yet, but agencies the outlet spoke to learned of the changes during customs clearance on Thursday, April 24.
“We only found out about it after we filed the declaration — we wouldn’t have known otherwise. The news is spreading like wildfire now,” said Chen Shaolin, manager of import agency Zhengnenliang Supply Chain.
The agency’s sources said tariffs on eight types of integrated circuits, which cover most semiconductors except memory chips, have been reduced to zero.
Beijing is forced to review these restrictions on critical goods that it cannot produce itself or purchase from other countries.
So far, the Chinese customs service and the Ministries of Commerce and Foreign Affairs have not commented on the situation.
