In MY 2024/25, wheat and barley acreage in Australia is expected to expand on the back of favorable weather conditions in growing regions and strong demand from China following the removal of punitive duties. At the same time, canola plantings in the country may decline due to lower yields and dry weather conditions in the west of the country.

Specifically, in Australia, wheat acreage should increase by 1-3% per year and barley by 3-15%, while canola acreage could decline by 4-20%, as drought in Western Australia is likely to hurt oilseed crops the most.

Expansion of planted areas should increase production of these grains in the 2024/25 season – according to market operators’ estimates, the wheat harvest could be 26-29.9 million tons, barley – 11.5-12.8 million tons, while canola production could decline by about 0.7-1 million tons, to 4.6-5 million tons.
