Canadian lentil deliveries to elevators up 85% since start of season

Canadian producer deliveries of peas and lentils to licensed elevators are running well above last year’s levels at the start of the MY 2026/27. As of August 16, pea deliveries reached 145.3 thsd tons, while lentil deliveries totaled 57.7 thsd tons, according to Canadian Grain Commission data.

Compared with the same period last season, pea deliveries increased by 10.5% from 131.5 thsd tons. Lentil deliveries showed much stronger growth, rising by 85% from 31.2 thsd tons a year earlier.

At the same time, weekly exports of both crops declined sharply. Canada shipped 35.2 thsd tons of peas abroad during the latest reporting week, down 44.7% from the previous week. Lentil exports plunged 98.4%, from 24.9 thsd tons to just 0.4 thsd tons.

Since the beginning of the MY 2026/27, Canada has exported 98.8 thsd tons of peas and 25.7 thsd tons of lentils. These volumes are significantly higher than a year earlier, although the increase largely reflects a low comparison base.

At the same point in 2025, new-season exports had barely started, with Canada shipping only 1.9 thsd tons of peas and 0.5 thsd tons of lentils. Therefore, the more indicative trend at this stage is the increase in producer deliveries of pulses to elevators, particularly lentils.
