Bulgarian farmers received a good rapeseed harvest
In general, Bulgaria is moving in line with other EU countries – actively increasing rapeseed acreage for the 2026/27 season.
In the 2025/26 season, farmers produced a good rapeseed harvest – up to 290,000 tons. The previous two seasons were very difficult due to adverse weather conditions and losses in rapeseed yields.
Due to a domestic shortage of raw materials, processors increased rapeseed imports in the 2024/25 season. The need for imports remains in the 2025/26 season.
In the 2025/26 season, the Bulgarian sunflower and processed product market is set to lose its gains from previous years. Sunflower production in the country has plateaued at 1.5 million tons for the second consecutive season.
Sunflower exports to other countries are a negative factor for the sunflower processing industry. Romania and Moldova are Bulgaria’s main sunflower suppliers.
